30 years of service
Fred was taught engineering at school and knew it right then; this was to be his field. During his studies at LTS and MTS, he was always busy with engineering and materials science, which only strengthened his passion. In his teens, Fred started working at Aldowa and although he has also worked elsewhere for 7 years, Fred has been with us for 30 years now.
Last summer, we were surprised to find Fred in his workspace in the production hall. Now this in itself is not so strange, except that he was in the middle of his holiday! When asked what he was doing, he simply said “just hobbying”. After all, working with metal is not only Fred’s job, but also his passion. As such, he enjoys talking about this. There is also a lot to tell and show, as he does rolling work, welding and construction work and repairs as well as typesetting. He can do it all and just picks up what is needed.
Fred cannot name a favourite project. He is mainly interested in the (thought) process leading up to completion. As soon as a new landmark comes off the drawing board, Fred sets to work to find out how it can be produced in the best and most functional way possible. With his knowledge of materials and machinery, he is able to push the boundaries and realise the most unique shapes and lines. In his long career at Aldowa, he has witnessed many developments. Where 30 years ago there was no computer, our production hall is now full of the most advanced machines. This is also why Fred enjoys going to work every day. Every day brings something new and no challenge is the same!
