Work in progress | In Amsterdam North, the Netherlands’ first energy-positive residential tower, the Brinktoren, will soon be taking shape. Designed by Mecanoo for developers Xior Student Housing and DubbeLL on the edge of Overhoeks, the 28-storey tower will be 90 metres high. On the favourable orientations, the facade will be equipped with coloured floor-to-ceiling customised EnergyFacade solar panels by Saint Gobain.

For contractor Cordeel, Aldowa is responsible for all ventilated façade parts in this project, which in addition to fitting the solar panels, also includes the supply and assembly of flashings, façade cladding and aluminium composite cassettes.
Remarkably, the assembly of the facade is not done on site, but almost entirely prefabricated at concrete builder Loveld in Aalter, Belgium. The earthing and electrical cabling of the BIPV elements is connected and checked according to the instructions of installer Homeij, according to the requirements of Scope12. The completed elements are then transported to the construction site in Amsterdam Noord, where they are immediately hoisted into position. The on-site connection of the BIPV will then be taken care of by Homeij.

Besides the solar panels in the facade, a heat and cold storage system (WKO) to heat and cool homes also contributes to the energy-positive result. Water storage on the roofs has also been considered in addition to the use of green interior gardens and roof terraces. The charging stations in the car park are used bi-directionally to relieve the electricity grid.
